The Representation of Gender and Region in episode 1 of Gavin and Stacey
Gavin and Stacey is a British Comedy which follows two different people who are both from different parts of the country who take a liking to each other and meet up. In this essay I am going to show how the programme represents different genders and regions and the stereotypes that come with each gender and region
When Gavin says to Stacey " You have got a right dirty laugh." This shows a representation of region as he is basically saying because she has the accent the way she laughs isnt normal. Another epresentation of Stacy is when she rings her sister and asks if she wants an omlete but then she takes a while to say something as if something serious had happened but in the end it was no. This could show the stereotype that women arent as smart as men. Another way the stereotype that women are dumber than men is represented is when Gavins mum believes every word that Gavins dad is saying. This could show a gender representation that women believe evrything that men say. Gavins mum shows the stereotype that women are oversensitive about there wait and are drastic about the worst possible thing happening. Another representation is gender as Staceys uncle tries to overprotect his niece and thinks that he is the male of the family and everyone else needs him alot. The final thing is that men judge women on there appearences as Gavins friend asked if Staceys sister was a "minger."
